This one-year introductory course serves as a bridging course for those who would like to apply for the Comprehensive Course later, or as a stand-alone course as an introduction to neuropsychology.
The course will equip the psychologist with foundational knowledge of neuropsychology and some experience in neuropsychological test administration.
This is a part-time course that will require approximately 5 hours per week of work from 29 February 2024 to 30 November 2024.

Course Content
The course consists of reading the prescribed reading material, watching tutorial videos and completing nine assignments.
The first assignment (Assignment A) involves practicing the tests that participants will be trained in during the compulsory two-day workshop. The remaining assignments are online multiple-choice questionnaires based on the videos and prescribed reading material.
Topics to be covered include: neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neuropathology and neuropsychological assessment.
Compulsory Workshop
Candidates will need to attend a two-day online introductory workshop on 29 February & 1 March 2024 from 09:00 – 17:00.
Practical
Attendees will learn to apply neuropsychology in the South African context at the compulsory two-day workshop. Training on a specific battery of tests will be included. Thereafter, as Assignment A, attendees will be required to apply this knowledge by finding and testing, in English, three or more healthy child volunteers aged between 8 and 17 years. This will form part of a norm collection project and the psychologists will receive the collated normative data when it has been collated.
Test materials will be made available for the assessment and for psychologists to keep for their personal use.
Level of Course
While this course is a part-time course, the level is moderately difficult.

Total cost: R10 987-50 (discounted fee for Neuropsychology SA Registered Psychologist and Student Members: R9 641-60)

- Course fee, ESSI test (valued at R2 000), battery of tests in public domain and postage

Dates
This course begins on 29 February 2024 and ends on 30 November 2024.
Attendance is compulsory for the two-day online workshop on 29 February & 1 March 2024.
Assignments are due at the end of each month from end March to end November 2024. The practical assignment is due end June 2024.
Course Outcome
Candidates who successfully complete the course (obtain 80% or more) and complete the practical will receive certificates of completion.
Important: This course does not ensure HPCSA registration in the category of Neuropsychology.
Who May Register
Clinical, Counselling and Educational Psychologists and Neuropsychologists registered with the HPCSA.
